Phil and Anne have just returned from a "Photo Safari" in Haast, led by Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken of the Queenstown Centre For Creative Photography. Here's Phil's report:
We had no pre-conceived ideas of what to expect from our forthcoming safari. In the event, we were delighted with what transpired. We captured a flavour of the autumn colours on our leisurely drive from Queenstown to Haast via Lake Wanaka, and met up with the other members of the party: including us we were 6 women and 4 men with a wide range of age and experience.
Then, from Friday afternoon until Tuesday morning it was an exhilarating round of photography, hints and tips, show and tell, critique and try again. We visited several good locations, and got lucky with the weather. But the outstanding feature of the week was the sheer delight of spending time with Jackie and Mike. Not only are they really good and passionate photographers, they are also really good teachers and really nice people. After bidding farewell to our new friends, we drove to Christchurch via Greymouth and Arthur's Pass to Christchurch for the flight home. The photographs we took on the drive home are better than those we took on the drive out. Very satisfying.
