Testimonial from Imagenation

Working alongside creative people and delivering at a professional level is what we love to do and what we strive to excel at.

That's why we're delighted when someone like Richard Murray - artist for (and director of) Imagenation sends us praise such as the following:

"As a business specialising in creating unique art we were looking for a printing company that would support and help us towards achieving our goals. Mike and the team from Giclee Print Limited provide this and much more. They have a genuine concern towards meeting their customers needs. They freely give advice and information from their wealth of experience in the printing and IT industries. As an artist I need assurance that what I envision is going to be transferred onto canvas and not lost in production. I have the utmost faith and confidence that Giclee Print Limited will provide this. They say a picture speaks a thousand words, the picture I would paint of Giclee Print Limited's service would speak a thousand words of praise. Richard Murray - Artist for Imagenation Ltd"

We treasure this testimonial and praise as a gift. Fittingly, this blog entry has been illustrated with an example of Richard's fine work entitled "Te Taonga (The Gift"). Image copyright Imagenation Limited.

Creative Photography

Phil and Anne have just returned from a "Photo Safari" in Haast, led by Mike Langford and Jackie Ranken of the Queenstown Centre For Creative Photography. Here's Phil's report:

We had no pre-conceived ideas of what to expect from our forthcoming safari. In the event, we were delighted with what transpired. We captured a flavour of the autumn colours on our leisurely drive from Queenstown to Haast via Lake Wanaka, and met up with the other members of the party: including us we were 6 women and 4 men with a wide range of age and experience.

Then, from Friday afternoon until Tuesday morning it was an exhilarating round of photography, hints and tips, show and tell, critique and try again. We visited several good locations, and got lucky with the weather. But the outstanding feature of the week was the sheer delight of spending time with Jackie and Mike. Not only are they really good and passionate photographers, they are also really good teachers and really nice people.

After bidding farewell to our new friends, we drove to Christchurch via Greymouth and Arthur's Pass to Christchurch for the flight home. The photographs we took on the drive home are better than those we took on the drive out. Very satisfying.

Citizens and [NOT] Ratepayers

It's a quirky name for an exhibition, but when you see the subjects it will all make perfect sense! Photographer Charles Lynch has put together a collection of some of our more remarkably-difficult-to capture locals. The beautifully observed and photographed images have been given the GPL treatment and the results are - we think - quite stunning. If you've an interest in NZ's natural history, then this charming exhibition will be right up your alley.

Charles won first and second places in the nature section of the Auckland Photographic Society competition for two of the images on show here, and he's won other divisions since then, so he's a talent to watch for. Check out the exhibition and see what we mean.

Great Idea: Idealog; Great Art: Imagenation

We found Idealog through our friends at ImageNation, who had a tremendous article published about them in this enjoyably crafted magazine.

(Of course we had to get a copy of that issue in print, as it's always nice to see one's own work "out there". We're enormously proud of our association with the eponymous Brothers in Art so felt a wee thrill of excitement to see what we've helped to produce get the recognition it deserves.)

In an effort to grow our profile in the arts community, we decided a listing would be useful - and here it is in all it's functionally informative glory.

We received an enquiry in the first week, so that's not bad. If nothing else, we're subscribed to the weekly Idealog mail out, which is always enjoyable. The writing is fresh, intelligent and humorous. Just like us! Probably why we like it so much.

If you're a designer, photographer, artist or creative person (or just plain interested) you'll enjoy the read. Check it out. But not before considering buying a print of your work!

The Art of Surfing Exhibition 8th February - 2nd March 2008

We strongly recommend that those of you who enjoy art, or surfing (or both!) head out to Estuary Arts Centre at 124B Hibiscus Coast Highway, Orewa, Auckland and check out "The Art of Surfing - an exhibition of our coastal environment".

The exhibition has been put on by Orewa Longboard Club, just 'across the road', and features some very fine works in mediums as diverse as shell jewellery, aluminium, sculpture, oil and acrylic paints, screenprints on board, and of course our favourite - large beautiful photos on canvas.

The canvas prints that are there we know are beautiful, because we made them! We're proud to have helped to put together the portfolios of two of the exhibitors, each with unique vision and approach to the presentation of their art. Each is mentioned briefly below - we really hope you get along and check out the work of these very talented guys.

Alan Ashworth
of Inyaface Images, pictured here on opening night with his lovely wife Gillian and his stunning exhibition pieces is a long-time client. Al is the driving force behind the publication of Slide Magazine, which we are proud to provide scanning and image preparation services to. Even if you're not interested in longboard surfing this is a beautifully put together publication - grab a copy today!

Mike & John of Caught on Radar are also clients who offer a great service through their site, including superb prints, of course.

Like we say - the exhibition is well worth visit if you enjoy soaking up other people's talents and looking at beautiful things. Pick a print from one of these guys and you'll have a great addition to your home that you'll treasure for years.

Aloha!
